The Heartbreak Kid review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 12:30 (A review of The Heartbreak Kid)

What an awful, terrible, just pitifully bad, movie. I had never seen it until now, and I sat through the entire thing, despite the fact that I knew it was going to be a trainwreck from the beginning. Completely predictable, plus, no surprise, Ben Stiller's character is a total douchebag. And his father, who I do NOT like, plays his father on screen, and is a huge tool as well.

I couldn't figure out why I hadn't gotten around to watching this, and now that I have, I wish I had never wasted my time. NOTHING about it was funny. Well, maybe Rob Corddry. I think he was the best thing in the entire movie, and his part was relatively small. Everything else, sucked. Big time. What a waste of time I can never get back.

Very Bad Things review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 09:51 (A review of Very Bad Things)

This is one of my favourite thriller/black comedy/cult-type films to sit down and watch. It's awesome. Great story, in the pre "The Hangover" days...fantastic cast: Christian Slater, Jeremy Piven, Jon Favreau, Daniel Stearn, Cameron Diaz, Jeanne Tripplehorn. Gripping, keeps you on the edge of the seat, waiting to find out what could possibly happen next. Great stuff, it has definite re-watchability as well. Christian Slater is awesome, as awesome as he was in Heathers? Perhaps not that awesome, but pretty close.

Trick 'r Treat (2007) review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 08:03 (A review of Trick 'r Treat (2007))

Absolutely, without a doubt, one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. I have recommended it time and again to other horror fans, and it hasn't yet disappointed. A great anthology of stories that all turn out to be inter-related. It's scary, it's thrilling, it's well written, well acted, well cast, and without spoiling any of the awesome story of this film (I hate spoilers, both reading and writing them), if you are a horror fan, you need to see this movie, if not own it. I cannot get enough of watching this, and it should be on everyone's list of movies to watch on Halloween night!

IT review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 07:59 (A review of IT)

I saw this mini-series when it first aired on TV, and have seen it many a time since. It's pretty good, for an adaptation of a Stephen King novel, plus, it has Tim Curry, who is just awesome and scary, as Pennywise. A fabulous cast of well-known actors, some good writing, and thankfully, this was done as a mini-series, to do a better job of telling the story. Yes, the book is much, much better, but overall, this is still a decent, and sometimes scary, movie.

I love that a lot of favourite actors are in this, despite how sad it is to watch it and know that John Ritter and Johnathan Brandis, two of my favourite actors in this (aside from Tim Curry) died well before their time. But Seth Green is also in this, as are Tim Reid, Harry Anderson, and Annette O'Toole. And the original story is written by my favourite author, Stephen King. This movie scared me as a 12 year old watching it on TV for the first time, commercials and all...and still gives me a thrill watching it over 20 years later (though I am NOT afraid of clowns because of this movie, as so many seem to be!!).

13 Going on 30 review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 07:35 (A review of 13 Going on 30)

Jennifer Garner does a great job of portraying the wide-eyed innocence of a child in this romantic comedy that I love to watch over and over again. It's a great romantic comedy, one of the cuter/sweeter ones out there, and while sure, it doesn't add anything new to the genre and follows the standard romantic comedy formula, there is just something about it that sucks you in, and brings you back for more.

The pairing of Jennifer Garner and Mark Ruffalo was a good choice, the writing is good, the acting is good, there is some great classic music in the film, and I love the "Big"-type movie in a newer age, and with a girl.

Accepted review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 10 October 2011 05:51 (A review of Accepted)

I have seen this about five or six times now, and I completely enjoy it every time I put it on. It's definitely light and stupid comedy, but overall, it's pretty decent. Solid cast, story, acting, and definitely one of the better comedies of this type (the idiotic humour). Justin Long is great as the creator of a fake college, to get his parents off his case about not having been accepted anywhere else, and the things he has to learn along the way, in order to take it from fake to real, are just entertaining to watch.

Grey's Anatomy review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 9 October 2011 08:04 (A review of Grey's Anatomy)

This show just drags on and on. Meredith Grey gets more and more annoying, her waffling idiocy about which man to be with, etc. Initially, I liked the show...well, enough to keep watching, but, after a while, it took a specific mood to be able to endure more than an episode or two in one sitting. They killed off a couple of my favourite characters, got rid of another, and somehow, Ellen Pompeo's character gets all kinds of guys, and she's just a neurotic mess, who isn't all that attractive, and looks anorexic. I don't get it.

Miranda Bailey is a good solid character. Some of the episodes are very well written, others are just one step up from soap opera crap. Which, while awful, are hard to stop watching, that's for sure. So I cannot stop watching, but I sure wish they would finally put an end to both this show, and it's spinoff...so I can finally stop.

They review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 9 October 2011 05:36 (A review of They)

This movie is quite terrible. Awful. The lead actress is not good at her job. The writing is dismal, and the presence of people like Ethan Embry, Marc Blucas, and Jon Abrahams is definitely NOT enough to save this mess. I love Ethan Embry, but man, he should have turned this one down and run away.

I am disappointed that Wes Craven's name is attached to this as well. And while it was nice to see a very young Alexander Gould ("Weeds"), and an even younger Jodelle Ferland making appearances in this, overall, it is just a disappointing film. And one that most definitely, if you manage to sit through it once, should NOT be watched a second time (as I did). It just gets worse the second time around (I initially rated this 5 stars, but have now dropped it to 3).

Valentine review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 9 October 2011 03:35 (A review of Valentine)

Nothing more than basically an average horror film starring a few big names (David Boreanaz, Denise Richards, Katherine Heigl, Jessica Capshaw), a few familiar faces, and average, pretty predictable script/plot. I just watched "Valentine" for the second time after at least a couple of years, and still remembered two of the murders, who the killer was, and the ending of the film, so I guess it's not forgettable, it does have some re-watchability, but it's really just an average film.

It is fun to see David Boreanaz and Jessica Capshaw in the same movie before they were paired up on "Bones". Denise Richards does a decent job playing a bitch, and overall, the cast is fairly decent, though the two blondes in this (other than Capshaw) are fairly forgettable. While this is my second time sitting through the entire movie, I don't think it needs to be watched again, or kept in the permanent collection. All the actors in this have done much better stuff before/since.

Though, perhaps, this might be decent for a night of mediocre horror movies :)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer review

Posted : 12 years, 6 months ago on 6 October 2011 11:42 (A review of Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

This is one of my top favourite shows. As with most of them, it is a bit dated, especially the first season, and cheesy, for sure. But the writing, the wit and charm of the show, doesn't get old. Yes, there are some bad episodes, annoying characters (Dawn), etc. But there are also some awesome episodes (like the musical, and "Tabula Rasa", that followed it), and when the show moved to the CW, it came back a bit darker, more grown-up, than it had been, and yes, while there were (again), some bad episodes, the show needed to grow up a bit. That's where "Angel" did well, and Buffy got to the same place when it got picked up by the CW.

I love watching this show over and over. I think seasons 3 and 4 are my favourite over all of them. I love Spike, how he grows and changes over the seasons, and the show had a good ending to it, I am glad it was allowed that. (If it had ended in season 5, as originally planned, it felt a bit unfinished, but that was a good season finale as well).
