Waiting for Guffman

Posted : 17 years ago on 24 March 2007 04:31 (A review of Waiting for Guffman)

"Waiting for Guffman" has an excellent cast, full of great comedic actors like Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Fred Willard, Brian Doyle-Murray, among others. And of course, Christopher Guest is great in this movie, which he also directed.

This is a wonderful mock documentary (mockumentary) about a small town about to celebrate their 150th anniversary, the play that is to be performed, its actors....and how they are waiting for Guffman, a critic from New York they all think may help them get to Broadway.

All the actors in the play are looking for a bit of fame, and the play itself is hilarious. This entire movie is extremely well done, very funny, and I could watch it over and over again.

Emile

This was a good film, which I took longer than planned to watch. I remember when it was being filmed here in Victoria - mostly because I was going to school when the crew invaded our campus....a campus that was used for the "university" exterior shot, yet is on the college campus and was not credited in the movie. Yet, the University is in the list of special thanks. Go figure.

This is an excellent film about a man trying to reconnect to the last members of his family, after travelling from England to Vancouver Island (Victoria) in order to be presented with an honorary degree. There are a lot of flashbacks to his past, and the flashbacks are well done, and flow really well with the story line in the present.
