Pan Am review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 27 September 2011 08:36 (A review of Pan Am)

Based solely on the pilot episode, this show isn't bad. It's got enough going for it that I want to see more so far. It's set in the '60's and I love shows (if well done/written) set in past times, has Christina Ricci, and is directed by Thomas Schlamme. So far the show is off to a good start with a strong cast, likeable actors, good solid writing, and a good premise. Will it last? Will it continue to bring us enough to bring viewers to the table? Who knows. But who could pass up a show with Christina Ricci, who is fantastic?

So You Think You Can Dance review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 27 September 2011 08:32 (A review of So You Think You Can Dance)

Hands down my favourite dance show on TV. I tried watching "Dancing with the Stars" when it first began, but it gets boring, only showing people attempting ballroom styles. It's very limited, whereas "So You Think You Can Dance" stretches dancers beyond their known styles, exposes the audience to many different styles (some that have not been repeated since), showing the audience some pretty amazing dance routines and choreographers, and a show which enables dancers not just to grow as dancers, but to move from dancer to choreographer for the show, to even a panel member.

It's an amazing show for the dance world, it never gets tired, yes they change the format occasionally, but I don't think it's ever a bad thing (except when, instead of a top 4, it was top 6). The show allows untrained dancers to make it to the top 20, and show them what they are capable of...as well as providing them opportunities for work after their time on the show is over and done with (movies, etc.). And, the judges don't just sit and judge, they get up and show the viewers what they themselves are capable of, which is also good entertainment.

The Secret Circle review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 11:44 (A review of The Secret Circle)

Although this is from the creators of "The Vampire Diaries", so far, just based on the pilot, it is WAY better than "The Vampire Diaries", which is terrible. A few familiar places are found in the cast, and they are good, solid actors, previously found in some of my favourite shows.

Since "Charmed" left the air, there has been an absence of good shows about witches, so I guess this is why "The Secret Circle" is making an appearance now. It's about the same level of quality of writing and entertainment level as "Charmed" was, just current, and about teenagers, six instead of three sisters.

Fresh Meat review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 09:43 (A review of Fresh Meat)

I had no idea what this show was going in, found out it was a British comedy about a bunch of university room mates, all their different personalities coming together under one roof. Not bad, for a pilot, somewhat entertaining, but mostly, felt like I was slogging through it. Don't know that I will bother giving the second episode a go, with all the other, much better, shows available, but it might be good to watch (if it lasts), once everything else has been exhausted.

The Middle review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 07:19 (A review of The Middle)

Decent enough show. Solid, I guess, is a good word to describe it. Solid cast, writing. Not the absolute best thing out there, but definitely better than a lot of the crap that passes for "good" TV these days. It's just a good show to sit down, watch, enjoy, get a few laughs out of, and walk away and forget about.

Raising Hope review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 12:21 (A review of Raising Hope)

I never expected this unlikely sitcom to quickly become one of my favourites, but it has. And, I am also surprised that Fox hasn't cancelled it, as they have continually cancelled some of the best and well written shows they brought to TV over the years. "Raising Hope" just began its second season, and I hope it continues to be as entertaining, well written, and smart shows on TV.

Cloris Leachman is one of the best parts of this completely bizarre family, both when her character is lucid, and when she isn't. I have recommended this show to a few people, and all have quite enjoyed it, watching the entire first season all in one go.

Modern Family review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 12:18 (A review of Modern Family)

Another of my favourites, "Modern Family" continues to be another strong, witty, entertaining sitcom that I can sit and watch episode after episode of without noticing the passage of time. It's great to see Ed O'Neill given another well written comedy, this one a bit cleaner than "Married with Children"...and the rest of his cast does a great job of forming his oddball TV family.

Community review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 25 September 2011 12:12 (A review of Community)

I am so glad some of my favourite sitcoms have been allowed to grow and continue without being cancelled. Community is smart, very funny, very well written and cast, and never gets boring. Danny Pudi and Donald Glover are well matched amongst a great cast of funny/bizarre/odd classmates.

Great guest stars, always entertaining, totally off-the-wall, but hilarious antics, this show is in my top favourites.

How I Met Your Mother review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 24 September 2011 02:01 (A review of How I Met Your Mother)

"How I Met Your Mother" is now in it's seventh season, and aside from the long-drawn out annoyance of still not having heard THE story about how the guy met his wife, the show is still going as strong as it was when it started. I love watching it, can sit down and watch many episodes at all once, and I find myself unable to stop.

Witty writing, great cast - who doesn't love Neil Patrick Harris, who is easily the best part of the show? And Alyson Hannigan. And, despite my loathing of Americans making fun of Canadians, I do love all the "Robin Sparkles" bits on the show. They are just too funny to not laugh.

The Big Bang Theory review

Posted : 12 years, 7 months ago on 24 September 2011 01:54 (A review of The Big Bang Theory)

I love this show. I resisted watching it for the longest time, then last year, I sat down and watched three seasons all at once. It is hilarious, very well written, has an excellent cast, and still continues to be a strong series, into its fifth season, which just began.

I love Johnny Galecki, ever since I saw him on "Roseanne", and am so glad he's on another long-running series that I love to watch. Bring Sara Gilbert and Wil Wheaton, among others, onto the show as guest stars just adds to the awesomeness of the show. I hope it either keeps going, or ends before it gets cancelled and has some lame butchered ending to the series.
