Walk Hard

Posted : 16 years ago on 6 April 2008 07:22 (A review of Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story (1 Disc with Theatrical and Unrated Film Versions))

Awesome movie. Totally hilarious, great music, great story. This movie had me laughing all the way through it, and I will definitely want to see this movie more than once...or twice :)

Sweeney Todd

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 30 March 2008 09:15 (A review of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street)

Okay, so I really enjoyed this, but for all kinds of bizarre reasons. I can easily see how many people hated it, and why it left the theatres so quickly.

What's bad: too much singing, Helena Bonham Carter, Helena Bonham Carter's singing, the fact that Anthony Stewart Head's scene was cut, the fact that the single disc version of this DVD has no deleted scenes in the special features, the fact that the single disc copy has only one special feature, the fact that most of the time you don't really know what the heck is going on...and more

What's awesome about this movie:
Johnny Depp, Johnny Depp singing, the moments that are reminiscent of Edward Scissorhands, Johnny Depp singing (yes, I said it twice, and no, that wasn't him singing in Cry-Baby), Alan Rickman, Alan Rickman singing, Anthony Stewart Head's brief appearance, the fact that Johnny Depp serenades a straight razor...not once, but twice, the killing (which there is not enough of for a movie that claims to have a "demon barber" in it).....oh yeah, and Johnny Depp and Alan Rickman's duet.

Totally awesome.
I bet this quickly becomes a cult favourite.

Awake

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 29 March 2008 04:02 (A review of Awake)

The story for this movie is interesting...okay, there is really more like two stories going on, so the story that takes place while Hayden Christensen's character is supposedly unconscious is the one I found interesting. Lena Olin and Terrance Howard are great actors, and it's a shame they were paired with such dead weights like H.C. and Jessica Alba, who cannot act, and are absolutely awful in this. Hayden Christensen being the absolute worst, completely unconvincing, and dead weight for this movie.

Even with the bad acting, the movie is worth a watch, I guess, if you don't mind watching too actors who have no talent plod their way through their roles while others who actually have talent do what they can to save the movie, which does have a decent story.

Alvin & the Chipmunks (2007)

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 09:58 (A review of Alvin and the Chipmunks)

Overall, not bad. Definitely not as stupid as it looked from the previews, though it is a silly movie (of course). Definitely watchable, entertaining, and aside from a bit of crude humour, something the whole family can watch.

Although, not as good as the original Alvin & the Chipmunks that I grew up with!

Wedding Daze (2007)

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 08:12 (A review of Wedding Daze)

Yes, this is yet another stupid comedy. However, Wedding Daze does pretty well through most of the film, even though it is a silly movie. However, toward the end of the movie, it goes from silly to just plain ridiculous...and then it ends. And when it ends, because of the sheer stupidity that has just taken place, you are glad that it's over.

Instead of giving the movie a decent ending, they ruined it completely with the way they chose to go, and I am surprised that audiences liked this ending at all. Utter crap, after watching a decent build-up to a predictable end.

The Assassination of Jesse James

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 08:07 (A review of Assassination of Jesse James By Coward Robert Ford [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC])

I had been looking forward to seeing this movie for a month or so, having seen a few previews that made me want to see this. Now that I have, I was not disappointed in the least. What a great film. Powerful, great cast, great story, and even though the movie is about 2 and a half hours long, it doesn't drag on needlessly.

Cry-Baby

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 02:42 (A review of Cry Baby: Director's Cut)

I love this movie. I really enjoy musicals, and John Waters films, and no matter what anyone says, this is a great movie, and I can never get enough of it!

Yes, it's silly, but come on...who is watching this and expecting a serious film? Johnny Depp is super cool, and we all know it :)

What Dreams May Come

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 02:35 (A review of What Dreams May Come)

The first time I saw this, I remember how disappointed I was, and how much I didn't like this movie. Then again, I had just finished reading the book, which I absolutely loved, so the movie was a definite disappointment when compared to the movie.

However, having recently sat down to watch the DVD again, years after having read the story, and definitely long enough to forget most of the story (whether in the book or in the movie), I really enjoyed this movie the second time around. Yes, there are some really weird things going on in the movie, but it is a good story, with a great cast, and it was tough to sit through with dry eyes :)

The Abadoned

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 02:33 (A review of The Abandoned)

This movie really wasn't worth watching. The woman's brother gives away the ending somewhere in the middle of the movie, so when things play out the way they do, there is no surprise, no real suspense, and it's completely predictable even before he gives away the ending. Even still, the story is somewhat interesting, even if there is no motive given for why she and her brother have to die.....so overall, it's watchable, but don't expect too much from it.

American Gangster (extended version)

Posted : 16 years, 1 month ago on 28 March 2008 01:44 (A review of American Gangster (2-Disc Unrated Extended Edition))

I chose to watch the unrated extended version over the theatrical, and even though it seemed to be a very long movie (because I had to watch it in two sittings too), I am glad I chose the longer version.

The ending is kind of corny, but other than that, this movie is very well done, engaging, well cast, and well acted. Great story, based on real events, and definitely one to watch.
