Chapter 27

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 5 October 2008 08:51 (A review of Chapter 27)

Except for the fact that Lindsay Lohan is in this (and WHY is she in this??? She is a terrible actress who ruins all scenes she is in!!), Chapter 27 is an excellent film (when Lohan isn't around). Jared Leto does a fantastic job in his role as Mark David Chapman. I didn't even know it was Leto until someone pointed it out to me on the DVD cover. He gained a bunch of weight for the role and is, most of the time, unrecognizable. And, even though I knew how the story would end, it is still shocking when it happens.

You Don't Mess with the Zohan

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 5 October 2008 02:10 (A review of You Don't Mess with the Zohan)

Mindless entertainment that is only barely watchable. Very predictable with a thin story, not great acting...You Don't Mess with the Zohan, for such a highly anticipated movie, is a let-down. It will probably fly off the shelves when it comes out on Tuesday, for the first couple of days, but then, when people realize what a waste it is, interest will probably die down quite quickly. And when I am asked my opinion, I will be advising people to find something more worthwhile to spend their money on...this one isn't worth spending the $$ on to see, and makes me so glad I have my free rentals each week! Adam Sandler is capable of better.

The Happening

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 5 October 2008 02:07 (A review of The Happening)

I was quite disappointed in this, as I really enjoyed The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable, and had been hoping Shyamalan would come back with something as good as those. As one of the two big titles releasing this coming Tuesday, it is quite the let down. The story is pretty lame and ends off with a somewhat happy ending....it's like Shyamalan decided to crank this one out to compete with the Stephen King story "Cell", which I have heard is going to be made into a movie, and which, at least in book form, was a MUCH better story, one that keeps you interested. The Happening was kind of stupid, and not that great of a movie. One that I don't think I will ever have interest in seeing again, unlike some of Shyamalan's other films.

Bigger, Stronger, Faster

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 5 October 2008 01:55 (A review of Bigger, Stronger, Faster*)

An excellent documentary, one that is well worth watching. While not laugh out loud funny all the time, it is quite amusing, as well as sad, and frustrating, to watch. Chris Bell does an excellent job with his film, and I am glad I took the time to watch it. I only hope, after all of his hard work, that he made the decision against going on steroids.

Grey's Anatomy - Season 1

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 30 September 2008 06:51 (A review of Grey's Anatomy - The Complete First Season)

I was told that, if I started watching this show, I would be hooked. Well, I finally sat down to start watching it, and yes, I am hooked. I love this show, even though I do find Meredith to be more than a little annoying most of the time. The other characters...the other actors, make up for having to endure her annoying moments. The only problem with the first season of the show is that there are so few episodes, only two discs. But, since I started watching this show on DVD, I was able to move right on to the next season :)

Iron Man

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 30 September 2008 06:47 (A review of Iron Man )

This is definitely one of the most requested and asked about movies that is about to come out...people wanting it NOW!!! I watched it the other night, and I really enjoyed it. Robert Downey, Jr. is awesome in his role, and I didn't even know that was Jeff Bridges until I heard his voice, which made me take a closer look at him! While I really enjoyed this movie, I will definitely wait to buy it until it hits the lowest price point for a used copy at work. One to add to the collection for sure, an excellent action movie.

The Love Guru

Posted : 16 years, 2 months ago on 27 September 2008 08:20 (A review of The Love Guru (Single-Disc Edition))

Before watching this, I knew it would be a stupid comedy...and it sure was. It wasn't anything special, and most of the movie was just a waste. There are some funny moments, some really good comedic moments, but overall, this is just a so-so comedy. At least it's better than Meet the Spartans was, but Mike Myers is capable of much better than this....or at least, he used to be!!

Forgetting Sarah Marshall

Posted : 16 years, 3 months ago on 27 September 2008 07:45 (A review of Forgetting Sarah Marshall )

I was told to make sure that I saw this movie, so when it came in on Wednesday, I brought it home and watched it almost right away. While it didn't have me in stitches, and some scenes advertised on our trailer tapes weren't present in the version I watched (I watched the unrated, so I guess certain scenes in the theatrical version had to be completely different for reasons that are now obvious to me!), I did enjoy this movie. Completely predictable, as this type of movie generally is, but the movie has a good cast and a decent story. It also has male frontal nudity, more than once, in the unrated version. Guess that's becoming more normal in these kind of comedies, as this is the third silly comedy I have seen this year to include that (Harold & Kumar 2, and Walk Hard being the other two). Not a bad comedy, overall. Watchable, cute, and funny.

Sex and the City - The Movie

Posted : 16 years, 3 months ago on 18 September 2008 10:40 (A review of Sex and the City - The Movie (Special Edition))

When the show ended, I definitely missed following the stories of the four women in this series....but the movie, a reunion, a continuation and even more of a wrap-up of the whole series, is well-worth the time between the end of the series and this movie. It was just like watching a very long episode, with lots of well-written drama...and comedy. I understand all the hype now over this movie - from women, of course :) This will surely be a popular rental when it hits the shelves on Tuesday, and I cannot wait to buy this movie and add it to my collection :)

The Promotion

Posted : 16 years, 3 months ago on 4 September 2008 08:14 (A review of Promotion [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC])

I knew nothing about this movie when I brought it home, but I thought it would just be more stupid humour...as it turns out, it isn't. It is smart comedy presented in a well written script, acted out by a well chosen cast of actors. Quite a surprise...yes, there are a few moments of stupid humour, but the whole movie is extremely well done and quite enjoyable. I loved watching this movie.
