The Ward review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 5 August 2011 12:14 (A review of The Ward)

Overall, not a bad movie. Fairly decent, with a good plot twist at the end, "The Ward" did make me jump a few times (not always an easy thing...then again, I wasn't fully paying attention 100% of the time). This is one I will probably watch again some time down the road, possibly even recommend to others as a decent horror movie, not overly gory either. Aside from some less than stellar acting on the part of everyone in the movie, the story was enough to keep me watching through until the end, to find out what was really going on, and I was glad I did. No disappointments to be found, really, in the story.

YellowBrickRoad review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 4 August 2011 09:35 (A review of YellowBrickRoad)

I had never heard of this movie, but from a brief read of the description, I was interested enough to check it out. Now that I have endured the entire film, however, I really, really wish I hadn't wasted my time. I wouldn't bother ever recommending this to others. It was written badly, and acted badly by all involved, except for maybe Cassidy Freeman, but maybe I am giving her too much credit because her character wasn't seen or heard as much, and I know she's capable of better from seeing her on "Smallville". The movie drags on from start to finish, and really goes nowhere, isn't scary, and ends horribly.

Arthur review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 4 August 2011 09:32 (A review of Arthur)

Entertaining enough to watch when you don't have other, much better movies to watch. Definitely not worth re-watching, ever. Russell Brand is fairly hard to listen to, with his whiny voice from start to finish, but Helen Mirren was worth watching, despite her smaller role. Jennifer Garner wasn't very good in this either, but again, for a one time watch when you have nothing better to put on, or to do....decent enough.

s. Darko

Posted : 14 years, 11 months ago on 13 May 2009 05:21 (A review of S Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale (Widescreen))

What a complete waste of time. I sat through this entire movie and was increasingly frustrated with it. Not only does it make very, very little sense, nothing seems to really happen other than some people die, then don't die. s. Darko doesn't have the same feel or fluidity that Donnie Darko has, nor did it have the ability to capture me and draw me in from the start that Donnie Darko did. Daveigh Chase is not good in her role, James Lafferty plays a strange role that seems like it should have been bigger, which was disappointing, and nothing is properly concluded at the end of the movie.

A complete waste of time to watch this movie. I wanted my time back, I wish I had never seen it, and if I could give the movie a 0/10, I would definitely do this. Definitely not recommending this to anyone. What a let-down for something that is tied to a movie that is so great!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Posted : 14 years, 11 months ago on 13 May 2009 05:16 (A review of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans [Blu-ray])

I really enjoyed this third Underworld movie. Going into it only knowing that it was more about the werewolves and was a prequel kind of movie, I knew right from the start that I knew what the outcome of the movie would be, since we were already told/shown in Underworld: Evolution. However, this fact didn't make me want to stop watching, or make me enjoy the movie any less. The only real drawback to the movie is that it is really dark and hard to watch. Not dark subject matter, dark in terms of how it was shot, and so it makes some things difficult to see. But the same was true of the last movie. Still, a decent movie, worth watching, and a good third movie for the franchise.

Taken

Posted : 14 years, 11 months ago on 13 May 2009 05:11 (A review of Taken (2-Disc Extended Cut with Digital Copy))

An excellent film, Taken is well written, well cast, and just superb to watch. Tons of action that has you on the edge of your seat, along with a story that draws you in from the opening scenes, capturing your full attention until the very end. The only thing I would have enjoyed more was a better end to the movie, but overall, the ending was pretty good. Liam Neeson does an excellent job in his role, and I haven't seen him do a job this good for a while.

Definitely a must see, which was flying off the shelves at work today!

Chaplin

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 09:58 (A review of Chaplin (15th Anniversary Edition))

I could watch this movie over and over again (and actually have seen it at least 10 times, if not more, already). I love Robert Downey, Jr.'s portrayal of Charlie Chaplin, who was a major favourite of mine when I was growing up (I even dressed up as him for Hallowe'en a couple of years in a row). Kevin Kline does an excellent job as Douglas Fairbanks, and the rest of the cast is well chosen in their roles.

A great movie that is well worth watching, at least once, if not more!

What Just Happened?

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 09:55 (A review of What Just Happened )

Excellent movie. Great story, great casting job, and highly entertaining. I loved every second of this movie, from start to the very end. Well worth watching. Bruce Willis is very funny playing himself, and I love the chemistry between all the actors in this movie. Even though what happens at the end is pretty predictable, it's still very amusing when you see it play out.

Righteous Kill

Posted : 15 years, 1 month ago on 28 February 2009 09:52 (A review of Righteous Kill [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC])

This movie is barely watchable. If Al Pacino hadn't been cast in it, it might have been more entertaining. The story is decent, De Niro does a decent job, as does the supporting cast, but Al Pacino is boring and awful.

The other major problem with this movie is that, unless you are a complete dunce, it is completely predictable from start to finish. You know what's coming, and so, while watching to see it through to the end, the movie just drags on and on.
I pretty much fully regret ever bringing it home, and I am SO glad I never paid to rent it! I would want my money back.

It's time for Pacino to either retire, or stop trying to pretend he's a young man, and take roles more suited to his age.

Wii - Movie Games

Posted : 15 years, 3 months ago on 22 January 2009 06:19 (A review of Family Fun Fest Movie Game)

This game is awful. I wish I had never even brought it home, but I had to, because a customer rented it from us after we got it in, then brought it back claiming it didn't work (a brand new copy). So, I got to bring it home and give it a try, to disprove their claim, and sure enough, it sucked. It takes forever to get to the main menu, and by then, you aren't even interested in proceeding past that point!

I have seen some lame games, but I am still willing to play those....this one, I couldn't wait to be rid of!
