Californication - Season One

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 17 June 2008 03:33 (A review of Californication - Season One)

I love this show. Great cast, entertaining story, though definitely kind of sad. Lots of nudity in it, which isn't surprising for a Showtime show, but I cannot wait for the next season, and I hope it continues to be as strong as it was for the first season.

Fool's Gold

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 17 June 2008 03:31 (A review of Fool's Gold (Widescreen Edition))

I didn't have the highest of expectations for this, and I must say, not surprisingly, my opinion wasn't changed. Kate Hudson and Matthew McConnaghey did much better in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days". "Fool's Gold" is entertaining, but not, to be honest, very good. It's idiotic, unbelievably badly acted, and completely ridiculous.

The Flock

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 17 June 2008 03:23 (A review of The Flock)

Much better than I would have expected. Usually movies like this look great in the previews, then disappoint when actually watched, but this time, The Flock definitely didn't disappoint. A well-written story, good cast, keeps you watching from start to finish, with some very disturbing scenes and images...but very well done.

Be Kind Rewind

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 17 June 2008 03:19 (A review of Be Kind Rewind)

Excellent movie. I loved it...though I would have loved to know how it turned out in the end, but I can see why it was left the way it was. Great story, great cast. Jack Black and Mos Def are well paired in this movie, and Danny Glover's role is also a lot of fun to watch. Definitely one to add to the collection.

The Grand

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 9 June 2008 09:08 (A review of The Grand)

What an excellent movie! This was one I almost didn't bring home, but I am sure glad I did, after sitting through a pile of disappointing titles for tomorrow's release!

The Grand has an excellent cast, including Woody Harrelson, David Cross, Ray Romano, Dennis Farina, Cheryl Hines, Richard Kind, Chris Parnell, Gabe Kaplan, and Michael McKean, plus more! A great, strong story that is very amusing, well acted, well cast...and, perhaps one of the better movies I have seen in the past couple of weeks!

If you enjoy watching stuff like Best in Show and Waiting for Guffman...titles that are mockumentaries, you should enjoy The Grand. This is one I will be adding to my collection for sure.

Jumper

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 9 June 2008 08:58 (A review of Jumper)

Not totally awful, Jumper is mildly entertaining, despite having Hayden Christensen in the starring role. Why does he keep turning up in movies that seem halfway decent? Just seeing his face, or his name, makes me want to avoid anything he is in...and this one was no different. Jumper, while mildly entertaining, is sure not spectacular, nor really worth watching, as it doesn't add anything really unique/new/special...whatever...to the world.

Maybe if they had spent more time developing the story, instead of having his character spend the first half of the movie jumping from place to place, and mostly into banks so he could steal the money he uses to live off of (for eight years!) without ever once trying to get an actual job and repay some of the stolen money as he had promised to do. He makes himself out to be a good guy, but he's not that good, if he continues to rob banks for a career.

Can't really say much else about this. If you happen to pick it up, it's not completely awful...but there are MUCH better titles out there, so why waste your time and money??

The List

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 9 June 2008 08:54 (A review of The List)

Stupendously boring, complete with bad acting, bad accents (especially Malcolm McDowell), slow moving story, choppy editing...and bad acting. Yes, I said it twice. It was THAT bad...so slow, it put me to sleep, and I wasn't even tired. When I woke up, I felt no urge to back the movie up to the point where I fell asleep. From what I could tell of what I saw when I did wake up, I hadn't really missed anything, even though I had been asleep for at least half an hour! Nor do I feel any need to resume playing the movie and finish it. And I finished watching "Meet the Spartans", which I thought was truly awful! At least that one kept me awake, despite how awful it was!

Avoid this one...unless you are suffering from insomnia and need some help getting to sleep!!

Wii Fit

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 5 June 2008 10:18 (A review of Wii Fit (with Wii Balance Board))

I chose to buy the Wii specifically because of the Wii Fit. I was lucky enough to get one at work last week, as they are in short supply and hard to get. From the night I brought it home, I have yet to skip a day "playing" this game. I love it, and even when I am tired and my body aches from a long day at work, I still spend at least 20 minutes playing the balance games and doing some of the aerobics exercises which seem so much like playing games you can forget you are actually exercising.

This is one of the best things I think I have ever bought, and I can't wait to see what other games and exercises will be unlocked the longer I play.

The Bucket List

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 5 June 2008 10:08 (A review of The Bucket List)

Overall, not a bad movie. It picks up around the middle of the movie, and before that, it's a bit slow moving. jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman are well cast together. Touching and moving towards the end of the movie.

The Eye

Posted : 15 years, 11 months ago on 3 June 2008 06:07 (A review of The Eye (Single-Disc Edition))

Pretty decent film, with some good acting, eve on the part of Jessica Alba, which is a surprise to me, since I don't much like her, or think she can really act! I haven't seen the original version of this film, but I have heard that this is a pretty good remake of the original, and while I didn't find it to be all that scary, it was creepy/spooky at times, with some good suspense, and a decent, if cheesy, ending.
