Baby Mama

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 4 September 2008 08:52 (A review of Baby Mama)

"Would you put your eggs...in this basket?"

Definitely not :) This is a well written, well cast comedic movie. Yes, the movie is predictable (no surprise there), but it is well crafted and draws you in from the start, making sure you stick around until the very end. The ending on the DVD is much better than the also included alternate ending...but both are worth watching.

Love the performances by Fey and Poehler...not to mention Kinnear, Steve Martin and Sigourney Weaver...and Dax Shepard, among others. Definitely worth a watch...and finally, something good has been released among the piles of crappy movies coming out in the past month or so!!

My Sassy Girl

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 4 September 2008 06:54 (A review of My Sassy Girl [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC])

I gave this movie 40 minutes of my time, and even that, I felt, was way too much. Elisha Cuthbert...well, her character is overly obnoxious and annoying, and by 40 minutes into the movie, you sure aren't given much insight into why she feels the need to go around messing up her male lead's life. And why he continues to put up with her drunken, destructive behaviour is a mystery when he barely knows her and doesn't need to!

My friend told me how the movie all turns out, which is, not surprisingly, quite predictably....something I had thought right from the time the two characters meet turned out to be right....and Elisha's character's crappy "treatments" are just annoying diversions from the plodding plot of this piece of garbage. I don't care how sweetly the movie ends...it's painful to sit through just to get to what does, honestly sound like a nice ending.

Elisha Cuthbert is mostly what ruined this film for me...I have seen her in a lot of bad, or poorly made movies, and I wonder how she keeps getting cast as lead actress in these movies that might actually have some promise if she wasn't there, stinking up the screen!

Itty Bitty Titty Committee

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 4 September 2008 06:47 (A review of Itty Bitty Titty Committee)

This film doesn't have much going for it. It doesn't have a great story, not much in the way of great acting, or even great casting...the characters in the movie are more annoying than they are likeable, the story is slow moving - plodding, really...and quite predictable. Overall, quite boring and a huge waste of time. Quite surprising that it got released, let alone made in the first place! Not even worth a watch. I can't believe I sat through the whole thing...and that only happened because I am too tired after a long day of work to get up and change the DVD!!

What Happens in Vegas

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 24 August 2008 06:45 (A review of What Happens in Vegas)

I actually had quite low expectations for this movie after seeing it advertised repeatedly all month on the trailer tape at work - to the point where I wasn't even going to take it home! But, in the end, I did, and the movie was somewhat better than what I had been expecting, though it is still pure stupidity and completely predictable, I can at least honestly say it does have SOME entertainment value. Not much, but enough to give the movie a watch if you want some brain dead entertainment.

Prom Night (Unrated)

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 24 August 2008 06:43 (A review of Prom Night (Unrated))

I was talking to a customer the other day who asked what this movie is rated, and I was quite surprised to see that Prom Night is rated 18A....why is it rated 18A? Who knows, since this is one of the most tame and boring horror movies I have ever seen. Not much in the way of gory killings - in fact, only one killing that I recall really took place on screen, and happened above the waist. The rest of the people who died in this movie all seemed to get stabbed in the gut, and you didn't even get to really see it, or much blood after the fact either. Not much suspense in this movie either, which is quite surprising for a horror movie...and along with the lame dialogue and acting, and quite predictable storyline, this movie is definitely not deserving of such a high rating. More like PG. And, really, don't ever watch this. Stick with the original Prom Night if you want something worth watching!

Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden?

Posted : 15 years, 8 months ago on 24 August 2008 06:39 (A review of Where in the World Is Osama Bin Laden?)

An excellent film, filled with humour, and lots of serious moments as well.
Morgan Spurlock travels around the Middle East in search of Osama Bin Laden and discovers that most of the people he encounters share similar interests and wants in life, whether they agree with American politics or not. Well done, and very interesting.

Doomsday

Posted : 15 years, 9 months ago on 8 August 2008 05:08 (A review of Doomsday (Unrated Widescreen Edition))

Completely excellent, from start to finish. Full of death, action packed chase scenes, fight scenes, great cast, good story, great effects...Doomsday is one to watch if you enjoyed movies like 28 Days Later, 28 Weeks Later, Dawn of the Dead, etc...I loved this movie, and will surely watch it more than just the once!

Nim's Island

Posted : 15 years, 9 months ago on 8 August 2008 05:05 (A review of Nim's Island (Widescreen Edition))

I cannot believe that Jodie Foster actually agreed to do this movie. It is completely ridiculous, not to mention, irritating. Yes, this will appeal to small children who will probably want to watch it more than once, but for anyone over the age of six, sitting through it even once will likely be more than a little painful. I sat through the entire thing, hoping it would get better, but it didn't, and it was predictable from start to finish. The way the trailers are cut together, I was misled in terms of what I expected (and hoped) to see. A big fat disappointment for sure.

P2

Posted : 15 years, 9 months ago on 8 August 2008 05:02 (A review of P2 (Widescreen Edition))

Yes, this is a pretty low budget movie, with not the best acting...but it's pretty decent for what it is. I enjoyed watching it, and winced a couple of times during the movie, even though it was completely predictable....it is still worth watching if you are a horror fan.

Superhero Movie - Extended Cut

Posted : 15 years, 10 months ago on 7 July 2008 06:23 (A review of Superhero Movie (Extended Edition))

When I first saw that this one was coming, I refused to take it home from work, because I knew it would be totally stupid, and I thought there was no point. Then, a co-worker told me it was "surprisingly funny", so I thought I might as well check it out. It started off well enough - though still completely stupid and ridiculous - and it even had me laughing right off the bat. But, I think I only really laughed a few times, and the rest of the movie had me rolling my eyes and wishing I hadn't bothered to watch it. It is pretty bad (though better than "Meet the Spartans", the last new spoof movie I watched), with pretty lame jokes. Lots of spoofing Spider-Man, which is no surprise. The best part of the movie, for me, was Brent Spiner in a smaller role.
