Due Date review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 10 August 2011 01:00 (A review of Due Date)

I loved the pairing of Robert Downey, Jr, and Zach Galifianakis. This movie was very funny from the time the two were thrown together until the end of the movie. Some moments were a little too much to watch, but other than that, I spent a lot of time laughing as the two journey to get home in time for the arrival of "Peter's" baby's birth.

Zach Galifianakis is genius with his awkward comedy, and is so very different from how I first saw him when he was on "Tru Calling" years ago.

The Green Hornet review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 10 August 2011 12:55 (A review of The Green Hornet)

Again with all the hate for a movie. While I sure didn't enjoy Cameron Diaz - who played a character supposed to be 36, and she looks more like 46 - in this, I sure enjoyed the movie enough to go back and see it a second time in theatre, in 3D, because I was so entertained. Then again, I do love the super hero movies, I enjoy Seth Rogen, and loved the brief appearance of James Franco at the beginning of the movie.

Sometimes, people should just watch a movie for what it is, not have huge expectations, and not sit there critically analyzing every second of a film. Perhaps they might find they enjoy stuff way more if they just sat back, relaxed and enjoyed it.

Hop review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 10 August 2011 12:51 (A review of Hop)

Taken at surface value, as a purely light-hearted movie geared toward families and children especially, "Hop" was a good movie. When I went with my child, the theatre was packed full of families who all seemed to enjoy the movie. There was lots of laughter, and I wouldn't mind being subjected to this movie a few more times. Yes, the story isn't one of the best, but come on - it's a holiday themed movie for kids. And for that, it's pretty good. I didn't go in with super high unrealistic expectations, but I wasn't disappointed in any way by this movie, nor did I feel it was a waste of my time and money. I don't understand the hate for this flick, as there are definitely ones out there that are very deserving of such trash-talking, but "Hop" isn't one of them.

Dreamgirls (2007) review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 9 August 2011 09:47 (A review of Dreamgirls (2007))

"Dreamgirls" has some good music, and some okay music, is well written, cast, and acted. It even stands up to a second watch through a few years after the first, but, it's not one I want to watch again and again, so it won't be part of the permanent collection. I think you really get the most out of the movie with one, maybe two viewings, tops. I don't particularly like Anika Noni Rose or Jennifer Hudson in this, and that's probably a large part of why I don't want to own this. Beyonce is okay, Eddie Murphy, Danny Glover, Jamie Foxx, and Keith Robinson all do pretty decent jobs with their parts, and even Sharon Leal, in her smaller role, is good. But all combined, it's just a good movie to watch and forget about.

Lost Boys: The Thirst review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 9 August 2011 03:33 (A review of Lost Boys: The Thirst)

All right, so I admit I was expecting an even worse movie than the second in the Lost Boys line of movies, and I almost didn't even bother giving it a chance, despite the presence of Corey Feldman! In the end, I had to push play, and I was surprised to learn that this movie, despite being pretty lame, badly written, and predictable, was actually better than the second one.

Corey Feldman is great, of course, and there are flashback moments from the first movie, which is awesome, to make up for the lack of any of the stars of the first movie, aside from Feldman (and his "brother" in the movie, who is barely seen in this movie, but it's still more than we saw him in the second one!).

I actually enjoyed the campy cheesiness, and the bad acting, for the most part, but it really was only enjoyable because of Feldman. If you're a Lost Boys fan, and haven't seen the sequels yet, skip the second one and move straight to the third one!

Drop Dead Diva review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 7 August 2011 04:44 (A review of Drop Dead Diva)

"Drop Dead Diva" is a show I happened to stumble across on Netflix, and once I started watching, I couldn't stop, from the pilot right through until the season finale of season 2, which, being a pretty massive cliffhanger, killed me, knowing I had to wait months for the next season.

Well written, witty, engaging, cute, well cast, and also, sometimes, pure fluff, the show has a great balance of light-hearted fun and more serious content. Once the third season started, I watched the entire first 2 seasons all over again before getting into the new season. I love this show and hope it keeps going!

Outsourced review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 7 August 2011 04:40 (A review of Outsourced)

I really enjoy this show. I have yet to see the movie the sitcom is based on, but after watching the first season of "Outsourced", I might just check the movie out now that I know the show has been cancelled, which, while disappointing, makes sense, because how long could they draw the premise out and keep it fresh, interesting, and entertaining?

2001 Maniacs 2: Field of Screams (2010) review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 6 August 2011 09:47 (A review of 2001 Maniacs 2: Field of Screams (2010))

Without the presence of Robert Englund, this film is even less watchable than "2001 Maniacs". Bill Moseley is not even on the same level as Robert Englund, plus they changed the eye that had the patch over it, and replaced another more main character with a different actor as well. This sequel is just terrible, should never have been made, and definitely should never, ever be watched. The opening sequence is in comic form, I guess to give a bit of background, then when the maniacs leave town, the people they encounter are wannabe versions of Paris and Nicole. Not anything I want to sit through. Ugh.

2001 Maniacs review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 6 August 2011 09:40 (A review of 2001 Maniacs)

Having seen the original "Two Thousand Maniacs", I can say I much preferred it over this remake, despite the presence of Robert Englund. The original, which was just as cheesy and bad as the remake, at least is much more fun to watch. "2001 Maniacs" isn't scary, isn't well acted, and isn't well written, and is completely, ridiculously, terrible.

And yet, having watched it, I am now moving on to the sequel, with some very low expectations, of course. But if you want to watch this movie, do yourself a favour and go with the original film over this one.

Vanishing On 7th Street review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 6 August 2011 11:20 (A review of Vanishing On 7th Street)

Ok, so this movie started off decently, drew me in, made me want to find out what happened in the end....but as it progressed, and just basically dragged on with occasional flashbacks, it just got worse and worse as time passed. Hayden Christensen, who has never really been a very good actor, definitely made me wish he too would disappear, every time it looked like someone else was going to....that might have made the movie more bearable. Most of the time, I felt like I was watching "The Happening" which was 100% terrible, even though the events in both movies are nothing alike, "Vanishing on 7th Street" kept reminding me of "The Happening".

Perhaps because they both were not very good. I got to a point very near the end of the movie where I wondered if I should even bother finishing or just go to sleep and forget about it...against my better judgement, I went back to a completely predictable ending, and my actual words once the credits started rolling were, "oh my god, what a piece of crap".
