Franklin and Bash review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 1 September 2011 04:25 (A review of Franklin and Bash)

When I saw a print ad for this show a couple of weeks ago, and saw the faces of Breckin Meyer and Mark-Paul Gosselaar, I didn't even care what the show was about, I knew I had to check it out. Having seen the pilot, and knowing now that the show also includes Malcolm McDowell, that just makes me happier. The premise for the show, however, is not overly strong, and I currently don't see the show lasting long. That won't stop me from watching as long as I can, but boy, am I tired of legal dramas. There are just too many of them that follow the same overdone plot lines. And yes, this show is trying something different with the two renegade lawyers being brought to a proper lawfirm, but still, I don't know that it can be enough to give the show true staying power.

Not with shows like "Damages" and "Drop Dead Diva", true quality shows, out there. Though, I am sure, like me, a lot of people love the two main actors, and they are fantastic to watch, no matter what.

Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th (2000) review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 1 September 2011 04:20 (A review of Shriek If You Know What I Did Last Friday the 13th (2000))

I just came across this in a stack of movies I was sorting through and watched it, having forgotten that I had already seen it some time ago. Despite my love of Julie Benz, Danny Strong, and Majandra Delfino, I cannot say I enjoyed this movie even a little bit. It's way, way too ridiculous, over-the-top and overdone. The spoofs are many, too many, I think, too in your face, and definitely not well done. It's pure crap and shouldn't be watched, ever, by anyone, and it's a shame because it stars three of my favourite TV personalities, and I would have loved to include this in my permanent collection, even for the crap factor, but this one just too crappy to even be included just for the entertainment value.

Scary Movie review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 1 September 2011 04:13 (A review of Scary Movie)

Okay, so my major and first gripe with this movie has to do with the horrible, awful, disgusting blue colour some genius decided to paint my high school's exterior doors. The summer that parts of this movie were shot in my city (at my old school, for the exteriors of the school), I was around to see bits of the movie shot, and that colour stuck around for a while even after the movie was done, and seeing it again upon re-watching the movie (and the scene where a friend and I were forced to stay put behind a school bus while they shot a take), those old annoyances come to the surface once again.

Anyway, as a spoof movie, this isn't completely terrible. It spoofed a bunch of things, but yes, it went over the top to completely ridiculous too many times, when it had a shot at being a fairly decent movie. I just re-watched it for the second or third time, but I think that's more than plenty for this one, as it's just not really worth watching more than once (I know I did, but I am stupid that way sometimes, and I usually like the Wayans brothers).

Prison Break review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 31 August 2011 03:22 (A review of Prison Break)

I still have yet to finish watching this series all the way through (working on it now), but when it began, Prison Break was very strong. It had an excellent story to draw the audience in and keep us watching week to week. It did start to go downhill a bit into the third season (which is when I kind of lost interest), but I am still going to stick around until the very end because I expected the story to lose some of its strength along the way, once they escaped, because the premise changed, and changed, and changed again after that.

And when they were inside, it was excellent writing, acting...once they were out, it kind of felt...tedious...at times. The cast was still excellent, and I still hope the show finished decently, but that's yet to be seen. Definitely worth watching, even if just the first season (but let's be honest, the show sucks you right in so that you keep watching!!).

Star Trek review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 31 August 2011 03:18 (A review of Star Trek)

I was a little wary of a reboot of a classic franchise, but JJ Abrams did an excellent job introducing a new time line, and now new possibilities for a whole new storyline in the Star Trek universe. The movie is well cast, in terms of the actors playing the key roles we are already familiar with, and I hope there are more movies to come with this group of actors.

I have now seen this movie five or six times, and my enjoyment of it has not yet decreased on each subsequent viewing. I had high hopes for this, was a little afraid it would fall flat, but was definitely impressed that it not only held up, but was an overall excellent job, from the writing, to the effects, to the casting, to the acting.

Sons of Anarchy review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 28 August 2011 12:37 (A review of Sons of Anarchy)

"Sons of Anarchy" is an excellent, well written, well cast show. I never tire of watching the series (to date) over and over again. I have introduced it/recommended it to many, and have yet to find one person who hasn't enjoyed it.

I love seeing Ron Perlman in yet another series I love watching, Katey Sagal is, as always, fantastic, and Charlie Hunnam (who I previously saw on "Undeclared" years ago), does a great job in his role. "Sons of Anarchy" is, without doubt, one of the best shows I have seen on TV in a long, long time.

LittleBigPlanet 2 review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 21 August 2011 06:12 (A review of LittleBigPlanet 2)

This is one of my favourite games. And while I love the first "Little Big Planet", I love all the new stuff in the second one even more, the grappling hook especially. So many hours of fun, with all the community levels, the ability to create your own, and so much to do, being able to play online with people is great. The only thing I don't like is when you play with multi-players in your own home is that one person moving farther ahead on the screen tends to kill the one left behind, which is no fun and super frustrating!

That's the one thing, the only thing, I do not enjoy about this game, and has made me mad enough when playing with people who play to purposely kill their friends, to walk away from the game for a bit! But everything else, the graphics, the characters (so cute!), gameplay, is awesome, and I am not even finished playing all the levels to completion yet!

Pretty Little Liars review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 20 August 2011 11:05 (A review of Pretty Little Liars)

I'm right on the middle of the fence on this one. I just watched the pilot, and am willing to give it a bit more of a chance, but the plot as revealed so far is SO played out and done to death. Teacher involved with student unknowingly? Hmm...saw that, on "One Tree Hill". It's not anywhere close to being well written, or well acted, but the show DOES have Holly Marie Combs, Laura Leighton, and Chad Lowe, not to mention, Troian Bellisario, whose dad was behind two of my all-time favourite shows. So, these are the reasons (that and wanting to know what the whole "Jenna thing" is, though it's probably totally lame in the end) that I am going to stick around and give it a fair shot.

It is decent enough to watch, so far, as long as you look past the fact that everything that has been written on the show has been done and done, and done to death before.

An American in Paris review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 03:40 (A review of An American in Paris )

I love this movie, and on blu-ray, the quality is SO much better than I have ever seen it. From the first moment Gene Kelly gets out of bed, all of his movements are graceful, full of dance and music. Yes, the story is thin, but most, if not all, of the musicals of this time were, because they were made more for the music and dancing, which are, in this movie, just amazing to watch, and watch and watch again! And on blu-ray, just that much more amazing, the colours, the sound, everything is very much improved for repeated watching over the years to come!

The Midnight Meat Train review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 09:42 (A review of The Midnight Meat Train)

This is absolutely one of the best book-to-movie adaptations of a Clive Barker story (short story) that I have seen. I loved it. As a written story on the page, it is dark and twisted and full of imagery that, sure, doesn't completely translate onto the screen, but it was a really good job, and I have seen this a couple of times so far, recommended it to others (who all enjoyed it), and own it.
