Friends review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 09:31 (A review of Friends)

I watched this show from the beginning, and have seen it over and over (and over again). I love the show, though it might have gone on a bit too long, it still doesn't take away from my love of this show, and the disappointment I felt when it ended. It has definite re-watchability, the characters are lovable, and the writing is witty and well done.

The Lying Game review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 09:26 (A review of The Lying Game)

I checked out the pilot for this show tonight, and overall, it's not bad so far. Could the acting be better? Definitely. Could it be a little more original and well written? For sure. But something about it makes me want to check out at least the next episode, especially with the pilot ending leaving viewers hanging (of course) just so they will turn in! I had no idea what it was when I checked it out, but I am so far glad I have.

Nim's Island (2008) review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 03:25 (A review of Nim's Island (2008))

As a family movie, this isn't bad. It's fairly decent if you intend to watch it with children. However, it is a bit rough to sit through if you have no children around to keep it playing. Overall, it's just all right. Nothing special, totally forgettable, and really best left untouched - unless a child you know wants to see it. Even then, there are other, better movies out there to choose before this one.

Skyline review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 03:19 (A review of Skyline)

I fully expected this to be an awful movie just from watching the previews. I actually didn't intend to ever see it, but a friend wanted to, so I caved. And then, I wished I hadn't. It was wholly predictable, terribly awful, despite Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, and Brittany Daniel. Awful writing, definitely something that was not worth my time to sit through, and ended just horribly.

Teen Wolf review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 03:07 (A review of Teen Wolf)

This is possibly one of the worst shows I have ever watched, and yet, for some twisted reason, I keep watching it. Each episode feels like a chore to sit through, and sometimes, I can only watch ten minutes at a time, because it is such garbage, badly written, terrible acting. I checked it out initially because I love the original movie with Michael J. Fox, but the pilot told me I shouldn't keep watching. However, I had four episodes at the time, so I did, as it gives me something to do while I am playing games online.

But when I focus on JUST the show, I cannot endure it. I turn it off and move to something else, because when I give it my full attention, it's just annoyingly terrible and unwatchable. How it hasn't been cancelled yet is beyond me, but then again, the Twilight series of books and movies exist, so for that crowd of fans, this is just perfect...for those without taste or who don't know that this is crap, it's perfect. For those who care about quality, they should stay far, FAR away!

Eden Lake review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 17 August 2011 12:46 (A review of Eden Lake)

"Eden Lake" is a standout horror movie. I have seen it a couple of times now, and it still holds up, especially against a bunch of much lesser, awful movies. "Eden Lake" is excellent, and though it does contain some pretty brutal violence at the hands of teenagers, it is very well done. The terror and suspense levels are high, and it is a good one to watch. I have recommended it several times, and everyone comes back saying they were glad they checked it out.

Gulliver's Travels review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2011 06:36 (A review of Gulliver's Travels)

I really enjoyed this adaptation of "Gulliver's Travels". It got overly ridiculous at the very end of the movie, but that didn't really matter. It's entertaining, cute, and was good fun to go and see in the theatre in the winter. But I think you're bound to enjoy this more if you have read the original story, rather than just coming to it cold, because it is rather outrageous, and no one is a huge standout for their acting work. Everyone is just a bit more than mediocre.

Sydney White review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2011 01:13 (A review of Sydney White)

I actually love this modern day take on the Snow White tale. Sydney White and her nerd gang of outcasts are just cute, and the story, while definitely fluff, is entertaining, has re-watchability, draws you in and keeps you engaged from start to finish. You know how it will all turn out, yet you keep watching.

Insidious review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2011 01:08 (A review of Insidious)

Elements of this movie were pretty awesome as they seemed to be a throwback to older horror movies from the 60's and 70's (the opening title credits in big red lettering), but then on the other hand, half the movie is just flat, dull and predictable. Half bad, half good, it's still a decent horror flick, but only for one or two times around, no more. I think the terrible bits would start to really wear on the viewer and end up just being too annoying to sit through it. And the very end of the movie was just way too predictable. As an idea, it was pretty good, but where "Saw" was fresh, new and very smart, "Insidious" just falls far, far short of the same standards.

Tooth Fairy review

Posted : 12 years, 8 months ago on 16 August 2011 01:05 (A review of Tooth Fairy)

I have to admit that I really like watching Dwayne Johnson in pretty much everything he does. Ashley Judd, I can do without, and her character could have been played by anyone. But this story about a hockey player made to be a tooth fairy for punishment, is charming, clever, and good fun to watch. I have seen it two or three times now, and it's going to be added to the permanent collection :)
