Ghost Rider

Posted : 17 years, 4 months ago on 6 August 2007 01:58 (A review of Ghost Rider (Full Screen Edition))

I had been told not to bother watching this movie, but since I had it on hand, I decided to give it a try....and found myself wishing I hadn't. It is not a good film, not well acted, not well written, and the special effects, for the most part, suck.

Nightbreed

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 30 July 2007 12:26 (A review of Nightbreed)

This movie, based on the Clive Barker story "Cabal", while not particularly well done, is still watchable and has some gory scenes (for the time it was made). It is a good story, which is definitely better to read, but as far as a movie adaptation goes, it is pretty good. Craig Sheffer as Boone does a fairly good job, but watching this movie about 15 years after I last saw it, I don't find much that "scares" me anymore.

John Tucker Must Die

Posted : 17 years, 5 months ago on 30 July 2007 12:12 (A review of John Tucker Must Die)

Sadly, I enjoyed this movie, but only because I knew it would be one of those idiotic teenage revenge stories that isn't particularly well written...so, as I sat down to watch the movie, I just turned off my brain. There are some good jokes, and if you aren't thinking about the story too much, it is watchable and decent enough for what it is.

I believe I chose to watch the unrated version of the movie, and I don't think I will be going back anytime soon to view the theatrical release, to see what was different about the two versions, because watching this movie once was definitely enough for me.

Deja Vu

Posted : 17 years, 6 months ago on 30 June 2007 03:33 (A review of Dรฉjร  Vu)

A good movie, with good acting---as long as you don't think too hard about the obvious problems in the story....problems that will always exist in such time travel-type stories.

The one thing I found really hard to believe was that, while working to find a terrorist who killed hundreds of people, Denzel Washington's character was allowed to drive recklessly, causing all kinds of accidents (and not minor ones), possibly killing others in the pursuit of one man.

This movie was also predictable...I saw the outcome from the beginning of the movie, so I wasn't surprised when the story took the course I saw coming, but I still found myself glued to my seat in order to finish watching the movie, which was pretty good, despite the obvious flaws.

Pan's Labyrinth

Posted : 17 years, 6 months ago on 28 June 2007 11:57 (A review of Pan's Labyrinth)

This movie was definitely misleading, based on the commercials. Not what I expected at all. Very dark and violent (gruesome even), but still really good. Don't watch this with children. Definitely NOT a family movie. But definitely one to watch. Very well done, well acted, and great story.

The Gathering

Posted : 17 years, 6 months ago on 28 June 2007 11:55 (A review of The Gathering)

This movie had some interesting points, but by the time it got to them, they were completely predictable. For most of the movie, it seemed like two completely different stories were being told---the only common factor being the father of the family Christina Ricci is staying with. If you are looking for something with suspense, look elsewhere.

Music and Lyrics

Posted : 17 years, 6 months ago on 28 June 2007 11:53 (A review of Music and Lyrics (Widescreen Edition))

Music and Lyrics is completely sappy, predictable, and silly---but, in spite of all this, is also completely enjoyable.

the best part of the movie is the 1980's style music---especially the music video, and the Pop-Up video-type facts on the Pop music video at the end of the movie, while the credits roll.

And---Kristen Johnson and Campbell Scott are also in it, which was nice to see. This is definitely one I will watch again.
