The Wiggles

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 21 May 2007 06:09 (A review of The Wiggles)

If you have children, you have to share The Wiggles with them.....a core group of four men, with various other characters, who dance and sing, and really seem to get children moving.

And, repeated viewings don't drive me as crazy as being forced to sit through other shows/movies over and over. The Wiggles are definitely quality children's programming, and should be found in all homes with young children.

Disney's Hercules

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 21 May 2007 06:05 (A review of Hercules)

I saw this movie in theatres, and have seen it a couple of times on video....just watched it on DVD for the first time, and I must say, I have enjoyed this movie every time I have watched it.

It's not the best animated Disney movie, but it certainly isn't the worst. It's got some great songs to go with the mythological story.

I guess I enjoy the music because I am a big fan of "Little Shop of Horrors" and the music in that (both movies having their music done by Alan Menken).

It's just a fun movie, good for the entertainment value and---as usual in so many Disney movies---the one-liners and cultural references that appeal to adults.

Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 20 May 2007 12:30 (A review of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band)

This is bad, but good:)
Worth watching, not necessarily as a Beatles fan, but if you enjoy The Bee Gees, Peter Frampton, Earth, Wind and Fire, Aerosmith, Steve Martin, Alice Cooper...or George Burns.

The story...or lack of one...isn't worth watching without all of those people in this movie that's so bad it's good....and if you enjoy those types of movies for their entertainment value, you will get a kick out of this bizarre movie.

I used to own the soundtrack on record, and loved listening to it...but watching the movie sure doesn't live up to the expectation that was built up by hearing the soundtrack:)

On the Town

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 20 May 2007 10:16 (A review of On the Town)

An amazing cast, with equally amazing songs, music and dance numbers (all of which distract from the lack of a complicated story), On the Town is an excellent musical movie.

The story, as is typical of these types of movies, in unbelievable --- three navy men on 24 hour leave in New York, who meet and fall for the women they encounter. Gene Kelly is on a hunt for the woman he sees on a subway poster, unable to enjoy the sights of the city until he finds her (and he does find her)....and then loses her....and then finds her again --- but who cares if the story is believable when you can see Gene Kelly singing and dancing, along with his co-stars?

Gigi

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 20 May 2007 07:56 (A review of Gigi)

This is a great musical starring, among others, Leslie Caron and Maurice Chevalier. If you are a fan of musicals, don't miss out on this one, which won nine Academy awards (impressive).

The songs are fun, the acting is good...and the story is well written---while not quite believable, the story is more like a fairy tale.

Leslie Caron, as Gigi, goes from young school girl, to young woman in the space of less than two hours, but in the end, gets what she really wanted from the man she loves.

This is now listed among my favourites, and I could watch it again and again. Everything about this movie adds up to one great film, a classic musical that should not be missed.

Supernatural

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 18 May 2007 03:49 (A review of Supernatural)

Having just seen the second season finale last night---I have to say, I still enjoy this show as much as I have from the very start.

This show has strong writing, excellent casting (despite Jared Padalecki, who really gets on my nerves a lot on this show), great acting and dialogue...and I love the look of the show (and the fact that it is shot over in Vancouver...and you can occasionally see Vancouver street signs in what are supposed to be mid-western American cities).

The show is witty, serious, fun, and has a lot of suspense that is carried out really well. This show also has some great music in every episode. I love this show, which started off with a strong first season, and did not disappoint when it came back for the second season.

I am definitely looking forward to the promised third season, and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Gilmore Girls

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 18 May 2007 03:44 (A review of Gilmore Girls)

After seven seasons, it is sad to see the show end with some things uncertain, although the writers did a decent job of giving us a peek at the possible futures of some of the characters.

However, I would have loved one more season to cement the relationships, or give more of a satisfactory ending to a show that has really grown over the years.

Yes, season seven wasn't as strong...and I sure wasn't happy about the storyline including Christopher. I love Luke and Lorelai together, and would have loved to see what would happen...instead of being given the kind of ending to the series that we were given.

It felt rushed...watching the last three episodes, and knowing the show was ending with the season finale...I didn't feel like the writers really had planned for the show to end, despite all the uncertainty surrounding the show for months, so in the end what we were given was a sweet, but mostly disappointing ending that had the season finale...the series finale...really mostly focusing on Rory.......when I wanted more of Lorelai...and more of Luke.

Good-bye to one of my favourite shows. I have seen absolutely every episode of this show, and will definitely get the last season on DVD to complete the collection, so I can enjoy this show again and again---and again, for years to come.

Blood Ties

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 18 May 2007 01:53 (A review of Blood Ties)

This show was barely watchable. I watched about half of the pilot, and that was extremely tough to sit through. It was painful, slow moving, not even close to good acting, or story.

I know this show is based on a series of books, but perhaps it would have been better left to an audience of readers, rather than produced as a TV show that was so bad, I had to keep pausing the pilot just to be able to sit through the first half.

I gave up on it after that---having decided I had subjected myself to more than enough torture. If you are looking for a GOOD Canadian vampire show, watch Forever Knight

MUCH better, more entertaining....and doesn't make you want to walk away from it.
