About my collections

I don't have a video game collection, though I bought a Wii a few months ago, and have bought a few games for that, so I guess I am starting a small one now!! Other than that, my movie, book and music collections are always growing - the movie collection more quickly than the others, lately!

I am trying to add my favourite movies and television show sets to my collection, and any other movies that grab my interest along the way.

Rocky Horror Picture Show? Frank'n'Furter? You're a hotdog.

Hey there! Just a book suggestion. I'm about half way through William Kennedy's Ironweed. It's captured my attentions just like a John Irving novel so if you haven't had a chance to read any of Kennedy's Albany novels, I definitely recommend them.

The Harvey Girls is one of my grandma's favorite movies. She just had me watch it this past winter. Not sure why it didn't get as much attention as some of the other since it stars Judy Garland but if you like musicals, it's a good one.

Ditto. You were right about The Barrens photo too. It's kinda like The Barrens from Stephen King's: IT down there.

Hey! Just popping in to say thanks for all of the votes lately. :)

About me

I love watching/collecting movies and TV shows, as well as reading/collecting books and music. I like to write, and I have one child.

I work at a local Blockbuster, and love the fact that I can watch tons of movies for free - 10 a week is usually more than I have time for!! The best part of the free rentals is getting to take new movies home the week before they hit the shelves, so I do my best to see as many new titles as I can, because people ask "What's good?" a LOT!! :)

Occupation: Assistant Manager at Blockbuster

s. Darko

Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 13 May 2009 12:21 (A review of S. Darko: A Donnie Darko Tale [DVD] [2009] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC])

What a complete waste of time. I sat through this entire movie and was increasingly frustrated with it. Not only does it make very, very little sense, nothing seems to really happen other than some people die, then don't die. s. Darko doesn't have the same feel or fluidity that Donnie Darko has, nor did it have the ability to capture me and draw me in from the start that Donnie Darko did. Daveigh Chase is not good in her role, James Lafferty plays a strange role that seems like it should have been bigger, which was disappointing, and nothing is properly concluded at the end of the movie.

A complete waste of time to watch this movie. I wanted my time back, I wish I had never seen it, and if I could give the movie a 0/10, I would definitely do this. Definitely not recommending this to anyone. What a let-down for something that is tied to a movie that is so great!

Underworld: Rise of the Lycans

Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 13 May 2009 12:16 (A review of Underworld: Rise of the Lycans [Blu-ray])

I really enjoyed this third Underworld movie. Going into it only knowing that it was more about the werewolves and was a prequel kind of movie, I knew right from the start that I knew what the outcome of the movie would be, since we were already told/shown in Underworld: Evolution. However, this fact didn't make me want to stop watching, or make me enjoy the movie any less. The only real drawback to the movie is that it is really dark and hard to watch. Not dark subject matter, dark in terms of how it was shot, and so it makes some things difficult to see. But the same was true of the last movie. Still, a decent movie, worth watching, and a good third movie for the franchise.

Taken

Posted : 6 months, 1 week ago on 13 May 2009 12:11 (A review of Taken [Blu-ray] [2008] [US Import])

An excellent film, Taken is well written, well cast, and just superb to watch. Tons of action that has you on the edge of your seat, along with a story that draws you in from the opening scenes, capturing your full attention until the very end. The only thing I would have enjoyed more was a better end to the movie, but overall, the ending was pretty good. Liam Neeson does an excellent job in his role, and I haven't seen him do a job this good for a while.

Definitely a must see, which was flying off the shelves at work today!

Chaplin

Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 28 February 2009 03:58 (A review of Chaplin (15th Anniversary Edition))

I could watch this movie over and over again (and actually have seen it at least 10 times, if not more, already). I love Robert Downey, Jr.'s portrayal of Charlie Chaplin, who was a major favourite of mine when I was growing up (I even dressed up as him for Hallowe'en a couple of years in a row). Kevin Kline does an excellent job as Douglas Fairbanks, and the rest of the cast is well chosen in their roles.

A great movie that is well worth watching, at least once, if not more!

What Just Happened?

Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 28 February 2009 03:55 (A review of What Just Happened )

Excellent movie. Great story, great casting job, and highly entertaining. I loved every second of this movie, from start to the very end. Well worth watching. Bruce Willis is very funny playing himself, and I love the chemistry between all the actors in this movie. Even though what happens at the end is pretty predictable, it's still very amusing when you see it play out.

Righteous Kill

Posted : 8 months, 3 weeks ago on 28 February 2009 03:52 (A review of Righteous Kill)

This movie is barely watchable. If Al Pacino hadn't been cast in it, it might have been more entertaining. The story is decent, De Niro does a decent job, as does the supporting cast, but Al Pacino is boring and awful.

The other major problem with this movie is that, unless you are a complete dunce, it is completely predictable from start to finish. You know what's coming, and so, while watching to see it through to the end, the movie just drags on and on.
I pretty much fully regret ever bringing it home, and I am SO glad I never paid to rent it! I would want my money back.

It's time for Pacino to either retire, or stop trying to pretend he's a young man, and take roles more suited to his age.

Wii - Movie Games

Posted : 10 months ago on 22 January 2009 12:19 (A review of Family Fun Fest Presents Movie Games)

This game is awful. I wish I had never even brought it home, but I had to, because a customer rented it from us after we got it in, then brought it back claiming it didn't work (a brand new copy). So, I got to bring it home and give it a try, to disprove their claim, and sure enough, it sucked. It takes forever to get to the main menu, and by then, you aren't even interested in proceeding past that point!

I have seen some lame games, but I am still willing to play those....this one, I couldn't wait to be rid of!

Horton Hears a Who

Posted : 11 months, 2 weeks ago on 5 December 2008 08:43 (A review of Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! (Widescreen and Full-Screen Single-Disc Edition))

Horton Hears a Who has a lot of the original elements from the book, which I really enjoyed and appreciated. I loved the book growing up, so was definitely looking forward to the movie, and I was impressed with the job that was done in making this come alive off the written page. Great cast of actors, with lots of well known comedic actors, a good job done on the expansion of the story. I have now decided to buy this when it comes out on Tuesday so that I can watch it with my daughter, and I am positive she will want to see it again and again. I know I won't mind seeing it a few more times :)

The X-Files: I Want to Believe

Posted : 11 months, 3 weeks ago on 1 December 2008 03:57 (A review of The X Files: I Want to Believe (Single-Disc Edition))

Pretty good movie. I just finished watching it, and while it is not as "out there" as most of the stories on "The X-Files", or even the first movie, it is still well written, directed, and acted. I liked that they brought Mitch Pileggi in as well, near the end. Despite how well this movie was done, I do hope it is the last, that this has closed the door on any future movies. Mulder and Scully are getting older, and shouldn't be chasing around after monsters. They should get to retire and live their lives :)

when the movie does reveal what is really going on, it's disturbing - which is no surprise, but it's a really good twist, and I quite enjoyed it, though I did have to pause the movie and come back to it, just because I was tired of watching it, since it does take a while to get to what is going on (because it's not wrapped up neatly in a one-hour episode, I guess....or because I was exhausted!!).

Wanted

Posted : 11 months, 3 weeks ago on 1 December 2008 03:51 (A review of Wanted [Blu-ray])

This movie has some great special effects, from start to finish. The biggest drawback for me was the fact that Angelina Jolie is in this movie. She doesn't do that great of a job with her character. Any actress could have played the part, and I am sure there are a number of others who would have done a better job.

Aside from that, I think the effects are better than the story. The story is decent, the movie is good. It's just not the best thing I have seen - but it does have some of the best effects I have seen recently. It's a solid action movie, for sure.
